Strong Pitching Helps Bears Sweep Garnet Softball

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Visiting Ursinus (12-2, 2-0) scored runs in sixth and seventh innings to spoil an outstanding pitching performance from freshman hurler Isabel Sanchez, as the Bears completed the doubleheader sweep over the Swarthmore College softball team (8-14, 1-3) with a 2-1 win in game two on Thursday afternoon from Clothier Field. Ursinus took the first game 5-0.

Swat Baseball Postponed; Softball Rescheduled for Thursday

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The latest victim of the heavy rains to hit the Mid-Atlantic region is the Swarthmore baseball team, as today’s scheduled Centennial Conference game at Washington College has been postponed until Thursday at 3:30.

Meanwhile, the Swarthmore softball team’s doubleheader with Ursinus – originally scheduled for Tuesday afternoon – will now be played on Thursday at 3:30 from Clothier Field.

Softball Opens Centennial Play With Split of Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa. – A solid performance from senior Kathryn Riley on the mound and another superb day at the plate from freshman Danielle Seltzer (two hits, two RBIs) helped the Swarthmore College softball team (8-12, 1-1) take the first game of its Centennial Conference opening twinbill with Dickinson 6-0 on Saturday afternoon. Despite another outstanding pitching performance from Riley (2-4) in the second game, the Garnet lost to Red Devils in game two 1-0 – thanks to a two-out RBI triple from Dickinson’s Alesha Sisco in the sixth inning.

Pride Takes Two From Garnet Softball, 11-0 and 6-4 (8)

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Visiting Widener scored two runs with two outs in the top of the eighth inning thanks in part to an error in the outfield, as the Pride rallied to defeat the Swarthmore College softball team 6-4 in the second game of the doubleheader, completing a two-game sweep on Thursday afternoon from the College. The Pride took the first game 11-0 in five innings.

With Bat and Glove, Scheirer Leads Swat Softball to Split With Cabrini

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Junior Krista Scheirer got it done with her bat and with her glove, blasting a solo home run in the fifth inning while igniting a game-ending double play at shortstop to lead the Swarthmore College softball team (7-9) to an exciting 6-5 victory over visiting Cabrini in the second game of a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon from Clothier Field. The Cavaliers (7-5) won the first game 12-1 in five innings.

Blue Jays Sweep Garnet Softball, 5-4 and 9-1

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – It was a tough day on the diamond for the Swarthmore College softball team, as the Garnet dropped a pair of games to homestanding Elizabethtown, 5-4 and 9-1 on Thursday afternoon. In the first game, Swat (4-8) saw a 3-1 sixth inning lead slip away thanks to four runs from Blue Jays (7-2-1) in the bottom of the frame, while in the second game, Blue Jays’ starting pitcher Emily Vogel limited the Garnet to just one hit innings over five innings.

Junior first baseman Krista Scheirer paced the offense, finishing 4-of-6 for the day including a double – the Garnet’s only extra base hit for the day. Freshmen Danielle Seltzer and Angelica Sanchez each finished with three hits in the first game.

Softball Back to Winning Ways With Sweep of PSU-Abington

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – A return to the friendly confines of Clothier Field was just what the Swarthmore College softball needed following a six-game Spring Break road trip, as the Garnet dispatched visiting Penn-State Abington 9-0 and 16-3 to sweep the doubleheader on a gorgeous Tuesday afternoon from the College.

Freshman Kate Smayda had all-around outstanding performance for the Garnet, combining for three hits and four RBI at the plate while winning Game 2 on the mound for her first collegiate victory. Sophomore Liz Cushing and fellow freshman Danielle Seltzer each combined for the three hits and three RBI over the two games.
