Garnet Volleyball Fall Break Trip to California: Day 2 and Day 3

CALIFORNIA - Days two and three of the Garnet volleyball fall break trip to California would be yet another great example of west coast hospitality, volleyball and beautiful sights.  Between junior Genny Pezzola's parents' meals and tours of San Francisco and an amazing Swarthmore fan turnout at the tournament its easy to say that Swarthmore felt at home in California in the past two days.

On day two of the trip Swat would wake up to a delicious breakfast before heading off to practice at Salesian High School in Richmond, California courtesy of Salesian women's basketball coach Steve Pezzola.

After two hours of practice in preparation for the Cal Lutheran Fall Classic now only a day away, Swarthmore was ready for lunch.  The team would head off to Sausalito for a delicious meal at the Paradise Bay Restaurant overlooking the San Francisco bay.

The Garnet were ready to see San Francisco.  The Golden Gate Bridge was the team's first stop for scenic views of the bridge, the city and Alcatraz Island. From there Swat would cross the bridge and head into downtown San Fran.

A day on Pier 39 filled with chocolate, scenery, attractions and the company of "goldman" would precede yet another delicious meal and Pezzola's house filled with barbeque chicken, grilled vegetables and tofu just to mention a few items.

Swat enjoyed its first two days in California but on day three it was time to get down to business, volleyball.  After waking up early to catch a plane to Burbank the team would make its way to Cal Lutheran University for the Cal Luthern Fall Classic volleyball tournament.

The amped up Garnet squad was ready for battle and would take on Chapman University to open up the tournament.  Game two would take place right after the Chapman Game against Occidental College.

Swat would lose a hard fought, five set match to Chapman in game one and drop a three set match to Occidental.  For the game recap and final stats click here.

As a pick up for the exhausted Garnet, the team would make a trip to In-N-Out Burger to replenish its energy and get ready for day two.

Swarthmore was set to play Whittier College and Cal Lutheran on Saturday.
