Garnet Celebrate Digging for a Cure Game with 3-0 Rout of McDaniel
SWARTHMORE, Pa. - All 11 Garnet players picked up at least two digs in Saturday's "Dig for a Cure" game where Swarthmore (12-4, 2-1 CC) would take down the visiting McDaniel Green Terror (1-13, 1-2 CC) in straight sets 25-8, 25-11, 25-22.
Swat's digs totaled 54 while the Green Terror would record 47.
Defense was the name of the game on Saturday and junior Hillary Santana exemplified that perfectly, leading the Garnet with 14 digs in the win. Senior Sarah Lambert and freshman Danielle Sullivan combined for 14 digs with seven apiece.
The Swat was very strong at the net as well, blocking the McDaniel attack 14 times in the game. Freshman Maggie Duszyk led the Garnet with five block assists.
Offensively, Swat controlled through out the entire match shelling out 42 kills while only allowing 22 McDaniel kills. Sophomore Kathryn Montemurro slammed 16 kills on the Green Terror defense while junior Genny Pezzola would add another nine kills.
After taking the first two games with ease, McDaniel gave Swarthmore a run for its money in the third set. The Green Terror would lead 21-19 before Swat would make a comeback and take six of the final seven points of the game.
The Garnet volleyball team returns to the court on Thursday October 7 when it hosts Centennial Conference opponent Bryn Mawr. Play is set to begin at 7:00 PM.
