Swat Field Hockey Falls to Johns Hopkins 5-2

BOX SCORE

BALTIMORE - Senior goalkeeper Katie Ashmore would stop 13 shots in goal for the Swarthmore field hockey team (3-5, 1-1 CC) but the host Blue Jays (3-4, 1-1 CC) would still manage to put five in the back of the net to top the Garnet on Saturday afternoon at Homewood Field.

Jones gave Swat an early lead with her fourth goal of the season.

Swat would take an early 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the game thanks to a goal from freshman Nia Jones, her fourth of the season.  Sophomore Sophia Agathis would assist Jones.

Hopkins would respond quickly with a game-tying goal in the fourth minute when junior Annie Shepard would slip one past Ashmore to make it 1-1.

Both teams were in a deadlock for the next 17 minutes with the Swarthmore defense holding off the Blue Jay attack until senior Jennifer Motylinski would strike to give Hopkins a 2-1 lead.

From that point on the Blue Jays would outshoot the Garnet 28-8 and score three more goals.

Sophomore Katie Teleky would knock in her sixth goal of the season for Swarthmore in the 68th minute to put the Garnet within three of Hopkins but it would be enough.

Swarthmore returns to Centennial Conference action on Tuesday September 28th when it travels to Washington College. Play is set to begin at 4:00 PM.
