Saarel Leads Swarthmore Women to Second Place Finish in Main Line Invitational

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Freshman Emma Saarel crossed the finish for a 10th place finish with a time of 18:43.35 in the three-mile course at the Main Line Invitational to lead the Garnet to a second place finish on Thursday night.

Swarthmore finished only behind reigning Division I national champions, Villanova.

Swat kept a tight group in the race with five of its runners finishing in the top 15 and all within 30 seconds of each other.  Sophomore Rebecca Painter finished hot on Saarel's tail in 11th with a time of 18:44.15 while fellow sophomore Rebecca Hammond would finish in 13th with a time of 18:59.98.

Swarthmore juniors had a great showing as Hannah Rose (19:02.39) and Melissa Frick (19:13.98) would finish back-to-back as well in 14th and 15th while Katie Gonzalez (19:22.88) would finish 18th and Stephanie Beebe (19:50.84) 21st.

The Swarthmore women's cross country team returns to the course on October 1 in the Paul Short Invite.
