Volleyball Earns AVCA Academic Team Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association has awarded the 2009-10 Swarthmore College volleyball team with an academic team award, the organization announced on Friday.

The AVCA Team Academic Award honors volleyball teams at the high school and college level that are successful in the classroom. Nominees include high school or college teams that have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.30 (on a 4.00 scale) or 4.10 (on a 5.00 scale) during the full academic year (both semesters or all quarters), and include all varsity athletes who competed in volleyball with the institution for any portion of the academic year. This past season, over 450 institutions have been honored with this award.

The last time the Swarthmore volleyball team earned the honor was 2006-2007. This is also  the fourth time during head coach Harleigh Chwastyk's tenure that the program has earned the honor.

The Garnet open the 2010 season at the Moravian Greyhound Premier against Wilkes on Friday, September 3.
