Kelm, Wallwork Named Centennial Conference Performers of the Week
LANCASTER, Pa. - Sophomore Zak Kelm of the Swarthmore College men's tennis team and senior Rachel Wallwork of the women's tennis team have been named the Centennial Conference Performers of the Week for their respective sports, the Conference announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Kelm (Shaker Heights, Ohio / University School) finished the week 3-0 from No. 2 singles and 1-2 from No. 1 doubles - paired with sophomore Stephen Youngblood - to help the Garnet to a 2-1 week. Against Muhlenberg on Wednesday, he won in singles play 6-3, 6-1 over the Berg's Robbie Goldwein. On Saturday, he picked up the Garnet only point against Williams with a hard-fought win over Jeremy Weinberger (Williams) from the No. 2 spot 7-6 (5), 6-2 which came after winning in singles (6-2, 6-4) and doubles (8-1) against Gettysburg.
For the 2010 season, Kelm is 4-2 at No.2 singles and 2-0 in Centennial play.
For Wallwork, the weekly honor is her second of the season. The reigning two-time Centennial Conference
Performer of the Year finished the week 2-0 at No. 1 singles and doubles. Against No. 24 Skidmore, Wallwork and partner freshman Emily Rosenblum defeated the No. 9 Northeast regionally ranked Skidmore pair of Danika Robison/NatalyMendoza 8-3 in No. 1 doubles, while then downing Robinson - the No. 24-regionally ranked - again in singles play, 6-2, 6-1 win. Against Muhlenberg, Wallwork won her 20th consecutive Centennial Conference singles match with a decisive 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 1 , while winning in doubles 8-4.
The Garnet men and women will both travel to Washington this week. The men square off with the Shoremen Tuesday (3:30), while the women are in action on Wednesday.
