Haverford Hammers Swat Baseball, 12-4

BOX SCORE

HAVERFORD, Pa. - An early deficit doomed the Swarthmore College baseball team once again, as Haverford (15-8, 7-2 CC) used an eight-run first inning to get by the Garnet 12-4 in Centennial Conference action on Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Jimmy Gill paced the Garnet (12-11, 4-5) offense with two hits, including his fourth home run of the season.

Gill blasted a two-run home run to give the Garnet an early 4-1 lead in game one.

Gill blasted his fourth homerun of the season.

An eight-run first inning off of eight hits by the Fords was too much for the Garnet offense to overcome in the nine innings of play.

Swarthmore tried to light a spark in the fourth inning starting with the  Gill homer to right field.  Freshman Rory McTear would follow with a double to left field and junior Ben Schneiderman would single to put runners on second and third.  Junior Thomas Nakamura would  knock in McTear but that would be it for the Garnet in the fourth.

Swat would only plate one more run in the bottom of the ninth on a Haverford throwing error.

Schneiderman finished the game hitting two-for-two with an RBI.

Sophomore pitcher Kyle Crawford would pick up the loss for the Garnet and move to 1-3 on the season.

The Garnet host Haverford on Friday April 9 on Clothier Field for the Centennial Conference grudge match.  Play beings at 3:30 PM.
