Swat Golf Wins Spring Home Opener
SPRINGFIELD, Pa. - The Swarthmore College golf team shot a 336 to defeat the University of Sciences of Philadelphia and Philadelphia University in its home opener at Rolling Green Country Club on Monday afternoon. Sophomore Paul Weston led the Garnet with a team low 73.
Weston started the day off with a birdie on the par four first and carried that momentum throughout his round sinking three more birdie putts, including a birdie on 18. Weston would also par six holes on the day.
Swarthmore edged Philadelphia University by two strokes after sophomore Alex Leichter would bring in the final Garnet score of the day with a 94 to seal the victory. Leichter birdied the long par five ninth and would par out on the par three tenth.
The top four scores for the Garnet came from Weston with a 73, senior Jeff Lazarus bringing in an 84, sophomore Alex Nichamin had an 85 and Leichter's 94.
The Swarthmore College golf team returns to the course on Wednesday April 7 when they travel to the Brandywine Country Club to face off with Neumann University. Tee-off begins at 1 PM.
