Shoremen Double Up Garnet 12-6

BOX SCORE

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - A hard hitting Washington College team (9-6, 4-2 CC) doubled up the Garnet baseball team (12-8, 4-2 CC) 12-6 in a grudge match on a sunny Friday afternoon at Clothier Field.

Ross went two-for-three with two RBIs.

Looking for revenge, the Shoremen would strike first scoring four unearned runs in the first inning off of three Swat errors.  The Garnet would respond with a run in the bottom half of the inning thanks to a RBI single from sophomore Miles Santo.

Swarthmore would chip away at the Washington lead in the second inning with another run before tying up the game with a big third inning.  A single from sophomore Mike Waterhouse would get the Garnet going but a two-RBI single off the bat of sophomore Spencer Ross would even up the game at 4-4.  Ross would two-for-three with two RBIs in the game.

The tie didn't last as the Shoremen would answer quickly in the fourth inning with two more runs.  It was all Washington from that point on as the Shoremen would plate three more runs in the fifth, two in the seventh and a run in the eighth.

The Garnet were able to put another run on the board in the fifth but were shut down by Washington ace Chris Smith.

Sophomore Matt Lamb would score in the bottom of the ninth as Swat would look for another late-inning rally.  The Garnet would put two on but it wasn't meant to be as the Shoremen would turn a double-play to clear the bases and end the game on a ground out to the second baseman.

Freshman pitcher Dylan Jensen threw a solid four innings for the Garnet giving up only four earned runs.  Sophomore Zach Weiner would also throw four innings for Swat, giving up an earned run.

Sophomore Michael Cameron and senior Wiley Archibald each two-for-three in the game.  Archibald would hit in a run.

The Garnet hit the road on Saturday April 3 to face-off against No. 14 Johns Hopkins in an afternoon doubleheader.  Game one begins at 1 PM.
