Garnet Hold Off Wolverines for 13-10 Victory
SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's lacrosse team (6-2, 0-2 CC) held off a second half Wesley Wolverine (5-5, 1-3 CAC) surge to hold on for a 13-10 win on Thursday night from Clothier Field. Sophomore Marie Mutryn netted five goals in the game to push Swat past the Wolverines.
After going down 11-3 in the first half, Wesley would make a blistering comeback in the second half, scoring six goals and hold the Garnet to only two. Wesley's Alyssa Prudente score four unassisted goals in the half to lead the Wolverine comeback attempt. Prudente had five goals in the game.
The Wolverines out-shot Swarthmore 17-7 in the second half but their efforts fell short as the Garnet's first half proved too dominating.
Wesley struck first with two quick goal in the first four minutes of play but the Garnet would answer with eight unanswered goals. Mutryn was the game-changer for Swat, blasting four of her five goals in the first half. Sophomore attack Annelise Mowry would net three goals of her own in the first half.
Senior netminder Allison Grein was solid in goal once again stopping nine shots in the first half. Grein would finish with 16 saves.
Junior Amy Vachal would blast two goals past the Wesley keeper while junior Emily Evans and freshman Beth Martin would score one apiece.
The Swarthmore College women's lacrosse team returns to the pitch on Saturday April 3 when they travel to McDaniel for it's third Centennial Conference showdown of the season. Play is slated to begin at 12 PM.
