Garnet Men Compete at McElligot Invitational

HAVERFORD, PA - After a two-week layoff, the Swarthmore College men's indoor track team got back to action with a short trip to Haverford College to compete in the Seamus McElligott Invitational on Saturday afternoon from Haverford's Alumni Field House.


Junior Chris Mayer-Bacon had a strong outing for the Garnet, finishing the 55m hurdles in a time of 9.01 and the 800 meter dash in a time of 2:07.45, good for the ninth and 23rd place finishes respectively.

Sophomore Daniel Ly continued his excellent start to the indoor track season, taking third place in the triple jump with a leap of 14-11.50 and 14th place in the 55m dash with a time of 7.05.

Freshmen Brian King and John McMinn each had strong showings in the 1 mile run, with King coming in 17th place with a time of 4:38.03, and McMinn taking 26th with a time of 4:44.00.

Freshman Matthew Heck had a strong finishes in both the 200 and 400 meter dashes, qualifying for the conference meet with times of 24.63 and 54.62.  Freshmen Gabriel Ryan and Ian Anderson also earned Top 20 finishes in the 400 meter for the Garnet, finishing in times of 56.12 and 57.98 respectively.

In the 4x400 meter relay, the Swat "A" team of freshman Dan Stuart, Mayer-Bacon, Heck, and junior Dan Kurz took 13th place with a time of 3:45.54.

In the shotput, Max Hubbard led the way with a 12th place finish thanks to a throw of 34’3.5”

Swat returns to Haverford next weekend for the Quad Meet next Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
