Givans Leads Garnet at McElligot Invitational
HAVERFORD, PA - Sophomore Kenyetta Givans had another outstanding finish in the 55m hurdles, taking third place with a time of 8.66, to lead the Swarthmore women's indoor track team at Haverford College in the Seamus McElligott Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Givans, who owns the College's 55m hurdle record with a time of 8.58, continues to lead the Garnet in the early portion of the indoor track season. Givans also had a strong performance in the 200m dash with a time of 27.88 to place sixth in the event.
Several other individuals had strong performances for Swat at the Invitational.
Freshman Hana Lehmann continued a strong start to her career with a season-best jump of 32’6.5” for a sixth place finish in the triple jump.
In the pole vault, sophomore Taylor Wuerker led the way for the Garnet clearing 8’6” to earn fifth place in the Invitational and a season best mark.
Senior Lauren DeLuca took eighth place in the one-mile run with a time of 5:24:50, which ranks tenth on the Garnet All-Time list, while junior teammate Rebecca Woo placed thirteenth with a time of 5:32:35.
In the 800m run, sophomore Margret Lenfest earned a top five finish with a time of 2:30.04.
The Swarthmore "A" 4x400m relay team, consisting of DeLuca, Lenfest, Givans, and sophomore Ogechi Irondi, had a strong showing with a fourth place with a time of 4:20.06.
Swat returns to Haverford next weekend for the Quad Meet next Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
