Ly Leads Garnet Indoor Track at Gotham City Cup
NEW YORK - Sophomore Daniel Ly was was the star for the Swarthmore College men's indoor track team in its first competition of the semester, earning two Top 10 finishes to lead the Garnet at the Gotham City Cup from the New York Armory on Friday afternoon.Ly finished fifth in the men's unseeded triple jump with a jump of 42'8, a season-best and second best jump in the Centennial Conference this season. He also finished 19th in the men's unseeded long jump of 19’4” and 63rd in the men's 60 meter preliminaries (7.67 seconds).
Coming off of an impressive cross country season last semester, freshmen John McMinn and Jacob Phillips made their indoor track debuts running 9:22.78 and 9:25.45 respectively, earning second and fourth in their 3000 meter heat.
In the 4x400 relay, the team of junior Chris Mayer-Bacon, senior Andrew Van Buren and freshmen Gabriel Ryan and Ian Anderson posted a season-best time of 3:49.12.
Mayer-Bacon posted the Garnet's best time in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:10.22
Van Buren had Swarthmore's top time in the 1 mile run, finishing in a time of 4:54.47, good for 48th place.
The Garnet return to action on Saturday, January 30, with a trip to nearby Haverford College for the McElligott Invitational.
