Langley, Rose Named NSCAA Mid-Atlantic All-Region
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Junior forward Morgan Langley and sophomore midfielder Micah Rose of the Swarthmore College men's soccer team have been named to the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic All-Region team, the organization announced on Friday. Langley is a second-team selection, while Rose was named to the third team.
Langley (Honolulu, Hawaii/Ionai School) re-wrote the Swarthmore offensive record book in 2009, leading a potent Garnet offense by scoring 14 goals, good enough to finish second in the Centennial and place fourth on the College’s all-time mark for goals in a season. Langley also led the conference in shots (82) and shots per game (4.32), points (31) and points per game (1.63) and goal per game (0.74). Langley was also named to the 2009 Centennial Conference first team.
Rose (Williston, VT / Champlain Valley Union) was a pivotal part of the Garnet midfield, fueling the powerful offense while assisting a defense that allowed just 14 goals for the season. Rose finished with season with three goals and two assists, including the game-winning goal against Ursinus. Rose was also named to the Centennial Conference First Team, Centennial Conference All-Sportsmanship team and Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll.
Both Langley and Rose make the team for the first time.
The pair were integral members of one of the most successful teams in Swarthmore soccer history. The 2009 Garnet finished the season at16-2-3 and reached the NCAA Division III Sweet 16 for the second consecutive season. Notable record-breaking accomplishments for the 2009 team included wins over four nationally ranked opponents, the highest ranking (No. 3) in program history, completing only the fourth unbeaten home schedule (9-0-1) in program history, and finishing with a program-record +35 goal differential.
Along with the individual recognitions, the team finished the season highly ranked in the final Top 25 polls from D3Soccer.com and the NSCAA, which were released on Thursday. The Garnet finished No. 12 in the D3Soccer.com poll and No. 17 in the NSCAA poll. The final No. 17 ranking in the NSCAA poll marks the first time in program history that the Garnet spend the entire season ranked in the Top 25.
