Field Hockey Falls to No. 3 Ursinus 9-0

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - No. 3 Ursinus got two goals each from Alyssa Thren and Megan Yoder, as the high-powered Bears overwhelmed the Swarthmore field hockey team 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon from Clothier Field Stadium.

Junior Krista Scheirer made three defensive saves to lead the Garnet, who performed admirably against the powerful Bears.

Thern and Yoder - two of the Centennial Conference and national leaders in goals - paced the Ursinus offense, with Thern scoring two goals in the first half and Yoder adding two in the second half. The Bears scored four goals in the first half and five in the second half, finishing with a 40-2 edge in shots.

In goal for the Garnet, starter senior Gina Grubb made 12 saves, while junior Katie Ashmore added three saves.

Junior Sarah McCabe recorded the Garnet's only shot on goal.

Swarthmore will look to rebound on Saturday when it travels to Gettysburg. Play is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
