Garnet Volleyball Goes 2-0 in Tri-Meet with Rowan and Stevenson

GLASSBORO, N.J. - Swarthmore (17-6, 5-1 CC) traveled to Rowan University on Saturday to battle it out in a non-conference tri-meet with Rowan and Stevenson. Sophomore Genny Pezzola had 23 kills and 48 digs for the Garnet as they defeated Rowan 3-0 and Stevenson 3-2.

The Garnet faced off against the Rowan Owls in its first match of the tri-meet.  Swarthmore made quick work of the Owls putting them away in three games 25-22, 25-19, and 25-13..

Pezzola_spike4 Pezzola had 10 kills, 18 digs and 5 service aces to lead the offense to the victory.  The Garnet defense was the story of the game only allowing 26 Rowan kills and posting 91 digs.

Game two for the Garnet wouldn't be as easy when they faced off against the Stevenson Mustangs.  Swarthmore lost sets one and two 20-25 and 23-25.   They looked as if they were out of it but the Garnet battled back to take the next two matches 25-14 and 25-13 pushing the match into overtime. In the fifth and final set the Garnet played with heart to take control and finish out the Mustangs winning 15-6.

Pezzola led the defense with 30 digs and recorded 13 kills.  Senior Kearney Bangs and freshman Allie Coleman combined for 30 assists in the match-up.

Swarthmore returns to Centennial action on Wednesday October 21st when they host Ursinus College for its designated "Dig for the Cure" game.  Play begins at 7:00 p.m..
