Second-Half Rally Falls Short, Field Hockey Defeated by Arcadia 3-2

BOX SCORE

GLENSIDE, Pa. - Senior Hoa Pham and freshman Katie Teleky each scored second-half goals, but it was too little, too late for the Swarthmore field hockey team (5-7, 1-3), as the Garnet could not overcome a three-goal deficit, losing to Arcadia 3-2 on a windy Wednesday afternoon from Glenside.

Teleky leads the Garnet in goals (8) and points (17).

A goal from Arcadia's Caroline Champi in the 43th gave the Knights a commanding 3-0 lead early in the second half, but the resilient Garnet rallied to make the game interesting.

Just two minutes after Champi's goal, Pham  - with an assist from Sara McCabe - scored her second goal of the season to trim the deficit to 3-1. Then in the 65th minute, freshman phenom Teleky scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season, making it a 3-2 game. But that would be as close as the Garnet would get, as the Knights held on for the 3-2 win.

In goal for Swat, Katie Ashmore recorded three saves.

The Knights finished with slight advantages in shots (12-10) and corners (12-11)  for the game.

Swarthmore returns to Centennial Conference action on Saturday when it hosts Dickinson. Action is slated to begin at noon.
