Swat Harriers Take To Path At Dickinson Long-Short Meet
Carlisle, Pa. - The Swarthmore men's cross country team opened up the 2009 season with a fourth-place finish in the long run of the Dickinson Long-Short Run on Saturday afternoon. The Garnet finished with a total of 52 points in the long race, trailing only conference rivals Dickinson (1st, 8) and Gettysburg (3rd, 50), as well as Carnegie Mellon (2nd, 15) in the 24-team field.
Freshmen led the pack for the Garnet in the 8100 long run. Freshman Jon McMinn was the top Swat harrier in the race, finishing in eighth place with a time of 27:04. Fellow first-years Jacob Phillips and Brian King rounded out the top three, finishing 19th (27:26 ) and 25th (27:43) respectively.
In the short race, junior Chris Mayer-Bacon led the way for the Garnet with a time of 14:16.1.
The Garnet return to action on Thursday, when it travels to Haverford for the Main Line Invitational.
