Garnet Women Finish Strong on Final Day of Swarthmore Invitational
SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Reigning two-time Centennial Conference Player of the Year Rachel Wallwork reached the Flight A singles final to lead the Swarthmore College women's tennis team on the final day of the Swarthmore Invitational. Wallwork also played a part in one of the two Garnet doubles teams to captured consolation titles.
Wallwork defeated Delaware's Elena Berry 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the Flight A final, but ultimately fell to Johns Hopkins' Carolyn Warren 6-1, 6-4 in the championship match.
Also for the Garnet, freshmen Emily Rosenblum, Kelsey Johnson, Alice Laughlin, Tayler Tucker and Dina Zingaro each dropped their only singles match of the final day.
In doubles action, Swarthmore pairs claimed both of the consolation titles. Wallwork and Rosenblum captured the Flight A consolation title after defeating the Johns Hopkins' duo of Bhamidipati/Several 8-2. In Flight B, the freshmen combo of Johnson and Zingaro defeated Haverford pairs Gibson/Tong (8-2) and Gallo/Silverstein (8-0) to earn the title.
