Wilson, Friedenberg Named All-Centennial
LANCASTER, Pa. -- Swarthmore College juniors Max Wilson and Kevin Friedenberg were named to the 2009 All-Centennial Conference team for men’s lacrosse, as voted by the conference coaches. Wilson, a defenseman, received a second-team selection while Friedenberg, a goalie, was honorable mention, as announced by the Conference office Tuesday afternoon.
Wilson (Great Falls, Va. / Langley) started all 14 games on a Swarthmore defensive unit that led the Centennial Conference in goals-against average (7.05). He scooped up 39 ground balls in 2009 and caused 11 turnovers (second on team) while winning 45.8% of the face-offs he took (22 for 48).
Wilson, biology major, earned All-Conference for the first time and is the second Garnet defender to make the second team in as many seasons (current assistant coach Dan Sartori ’08 was honored last season).
Friedenberg (Needham, Mass. / Needham) made an immediate impact on the Garnet defense in his first year as the starting goalie. He started in all 14 games and ranked second in the Conference in goals against average (7.12) and save percentage (.625). His save percentage ranked seventh in all of Division III. Friedenberg (right) posted double-digit save totals 11 times in 2009, including a career-high 18 saves in a 10-5 win at Dickinson.
Friedenberg, double majoring in history and English at the College, made his first appearance on the All-Centennial team, joining Frank Mazzucco ’08 as recent Swarthmore goalies to earn the honor.
