Shaughnessy and Kelm Named All-Centennial
LANCASTER, Pa. -- Swarthmore senior Kevin Shaughnessy and freshman Zak Kelm were named first-team All-Centennial Conference for men's tennis, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Shaughnessy (South Kingstown, R.I. / South Kingstown) and Kelm (Shaker Heights, Ohio / University School) combined to form Swarthmore’s top doubles pair, posting a perfect 8-0 mark at No. 1 in Centennial matches this spring. The Swarthmore tandems’ season was highlighted by victories over the All-American pairs from Johns Hopkins and Haverford.
This marks the second time Shaughnessy (left) has been honored the Conference for his doubles play; in 2008 he was a first-team selection with partner Jonathan Lo ’08. Shaughnessy, a senior captain, finished out his career undefeated in regular season conference doubles matches in the two years he competed in the Centennial Conference.
Kelm (right) becomes the first freshman in Garnet history to be named All-Centennial—Swarthmore joined the Conference in the spring of 2008.
Swarthmore will host Centennial Conference playoff action this weekend, taking on Haverford on Friday, May 1st at 3:00 p.m. The winner will advance to the Centennial Championship match at Johns Hopkins University on Sunday, May 3 at 11:00 a.m.
