Grigsby Earns Third All-Centennial Selection

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Swarthmore senior Melissa Grigsby was selected to the All-Centennial Conference women's lacrosse team for the third consecutive year.  Grigsby was a first-team selection, as announced by the conference office Thursday afternoon.

wlax_grigsbym_run2_09Grigsby (West Chester, Pa. / West Chester East) , a defender, has been a force on the Garnet backline each of the past four years. In 2009, the tri-captain led the team in ground balls (52) and caused turnovers (37).  Grigsby tied for second in caused turnovers (1.78/game) among Centennial players and ranked fifth overall with 2.89 ground balls per game.

This is Grigsby’s fourth total All-Centennial selection; she was on the second-team form lacrosse in 2008 and honorable mention in 2007.  Earlier this year, Grigsby was named honorable mention as a guard on the Swarthmore women’s basketball team.

Grigsby is the 16th Swarthmore women’ lacrosse player to receive first-team honors and the first since defender Cara Tigue ’06 was honored in 2006.  Grigsby is the sixth Swarthmore player to earn All-Centennial honors on three occasions.

The Swarthmore  finished with an overall record of 9-8, 1-8 in the Centennial.
