Swat Hands Loss to Green Terror

SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- The Swarthmore women's tennis team defeated McDaniel in a 8-1 Centennial Conference contest on Monday afternoon in the Mullan Tennis Center.

Garnet tennis (5-8, 4-4 CC) bounced back from a tough weekend with an overwhelming win against McDaniel College’s Green Terror (1-10, 0-8 CC) Monday afternoon. The team delivered an impressive performance, relinquishing just one singles match.

Garnet junior Rachel Wallwork (Washington, D.C. / Georgetown Day) extended her streak to 18 wins, as she broke each of her opponent’s service games, blanking McDaniel’s Emily Taylor is a quick match. In doubles’ play, she teamed up with Jennie Park ’09 (Rockford, Ill. / Guilford) at the no. 1 spot to seal an 8-0 victory.

Captain Marissa Lee ’09 (Cary, N.C. / Cary Academy) also refused to spare her opponent any points, earning 6-0, 6-0 win. With the match already decided sophomores Kathryn Stockbower (Ft. Washington, Pa. / Upper Dublin) and Alexis Hickman (Vienna, Va. / George C. Marshall) contributed to their team’s overall stingy play by sealing 8-1, 8-0 victories, respectively.  Partnered with Jennifer Trinh ’12 (Havertown, Pa. / Haverford), Hickman commandeered an 8-0 win at the no. 2 doubles’ spot.

The Garnet will continue play this week, traveling on Wednesday to battle conference foe Haverford. The match begins at 3:30.
