A Laud Finish for Garnet Golf

SPRINGFIELD, Pa. -- Swarthmore senior David Lau found the top-ten in his final home match with a six-over 77 Monday afternoon at the Swarthmore Invitational that included Drexel, Ursinus and Harford Community College at Rolling Green Golf Club.

The Dragons flew out of Philadelphia to tie for top team honors (315) with the Fighting Owls, just swooped in from Maryland.  The Garnet took third with a 323 while the Bears of Ursinus tired from the walk from Collegeville (343).  The teams played from the championship tees at Rolling Green, a sizeable distance of 6,917 yards.

golf_laud_no4_09Drexel individual Andy Frank signed for the low round, a four-over 75 with teammate Mike Serensits joining three others tied for second at five-over.  Also posting rounds of 76 were Brian Lutzow of Ursinus and Mike Tavik and Tony Tirburzi of Harford.

Lau (Hong Kong, China / The Hotchkiss School [CT]) (pictured left) posted his fifth top-ten performance in seven rounds this season and was joined on the leader board by freshman Alex Nichamin (Brookville, Pa. / Brookville) who fired an 80 to finish tenth.  One stroke behind in 11th was senior Michael Bernasek (Fairfield, Conn. / Hopkins School) with junior Kelly Schoolmeester (Irmo, S.C. / Irmo) rounding out the Swarthmore scoring in 13th with a round of 85.

Swarthmore has two more events this week, teeing off at Brandywine Country Club on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. against Neumann before heading north to the Glenmaura Tournament on April 19-20.
