Rain, Rain Go Away
SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- This message is not a repeat. Heavy rains in the Delaware Valley forced alterations to a handful of Swarthmore College athletic events scheduled for Saturday, April 11. Those implicated are baseball, softball and both tennis teams.
The baseball team unexpectedly got a weekend free of baseball, with its Friday game at Haverford and today’s 12:30 p.m. doubleheader vs. Gettysburg postponed. Swarthmore will need the rest—seven Centennial games are on tap for next week, starting with the make-up at Haverford on Monday at 3:30 p.m. The Garnet will then travel to Ursinus on Tuesday for a 3:30 p.m. tilt and conclude the season series with the Bears on Friday at 3:30 p.m. on Clothier Fields. The weekend now has two doubleheaders with the Garnet traveling to Franklin & Marshall on Saturday, April 18 and then welcoming Gettysburg to town for the make-up on Sunday. First pitch for that game is slated for 12:30 p.m. as well.
The softball team was scheduled to host McDaniel on Saturday afternoon but that doubleheader was postponed as well. The two teams are still working out a reschedule date and time.
The Swarthmore tennis teams will stay play at Ursinus College on Saturday, but wet conditions are moving the matches indoors. The Garnet women will take the court at 11:00 a.m. and the men’s are to follow (at approximately 2:00 p.m.).
