No. 5 Diplomats Blast Past Swat

LANCASTER, Pa. -- The fifth-ranked Franklin & Marshall women's lacrosse team put up a 14-5 effort for a Centennial Conference win over Swarthmore on Wednesday evening.

The Diplomats improved their overall record to 9-1 and 4-0 in Conference play as visiting Swarthmore fell to 6-3, 0-3 CC.

Franklin & Marshall had six individual players score in the first half while notching a total of nine goals.

The second half started with two goals from the Diplomats pushing their tally to 11 total goals.

Swarthmore scored five straight goals to get on the board in the second half that started with back-to-back goals from sophomore midfielder Amy Vachal (Somerset, N.J. / Rutgers Prep). The goals contined Vachal’s scoring streak to 15 games in a row, the run began last season on April 5th, 2008 and has extended through the season. Sophomore midfielder Emily Evans (Atlanta, Ga. / North Springs) is also of a scoring surge at the moment pushing her streak to 11 goals that start last season as well on April 17th. With only three minutes left in the game senior midfielder Anna de Regt (Redmond, Wash. / Overlake School) finished off the points for the Garnet with back-to-back goals.

The Diplomats closed the game scoring the final three goals to make the score 14-5.

In goal for the Garnet was junior Allison Grein (Floral Park, N.Y. / Floral Park), who turned away two shots, collected two ground balls and caused two Diplomat turnovers.

The Garnet will continue traveling on the road as the face Centennial Conference opponent Bryn Mawr on Saturday, April 4th. The game is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
