PALs Team Up With Track Team
SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- The Swarthmore outdoor track & field teams and Chester Patient Advice and Liason Service (PALS) team up last month for an afternoon clinic.
The Chester PAL organization implements locally-based prevention strategies that are designed to prevent, and/or reduce, juvenile crime by providing the youth of Chester with structured recreation, cultural, and educational activities in a supervised safe and gang free environment.
The Garnet student-athletes set up stations teaching various skills and techniques ranging from long/ triple jump, shot put, hurdles, high jump, baton passing. They also discussed how important stretching and taking a warm-up can be before competition.
This is the second clinic of a series that the Chester youth organization's after-school program will be participating in with partnership with Swarthmore Athletics.
Swarthmore head coach Peter Carroll expressed how his team is always looking for an opportunity to give back to the community. "That is the type of student that typically matriculates to Swarthmore. I think the kids may be more excited to participate in a learning experience like this one, than to actually compete in their own competition."
