Garnet Have a Hoot in Win Over Owls
SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- The Swarthmore women's tennis team topped Bryn Mawr 6-3 during a Centennial Conference match on Thursday afternoon at the Mullan Center on the campus of Swarthmore College.
Swarthmore won their second Centennial match this season while pushing their overall record to 3-3, 2-0 CC. Bryn Mawr fell to 0-10, 0-4 in Conference play.
Garnet doubles pair Jennie Park ’09 (Oak Park, Ill. / Guilford) and Rachel Wallwork ’10 (Washington, D.C. / Georgetown Day) pushed their win streak to three matches in a row at the No. 1 doubles spot as the Garnet blanked the Owls 8-0. In the No. 2 slot sophomores Alexis Hickman (Vienna, Va. / George C. Marshall) [pictured right] and Luann Cignavitch (Charleston, S.C. / Porter-Gaud School) picked-up an 8-2 win to secure Swarthmore’s second point of the match.
In singles action Swarthmore won the first four matches to secure the win. Both Wallwork and Park earned 6-0 and 6-1 wins in their respective one and two spots. In No. 3 singles Cignavitch collected a pair of 6-2 scores while Hickman posted 6-1 scores.
The upcoming match against McDaniel that was originally scheduled for this Saturday, March 28th has been temporally postponed. The Garnet will face Centennial opponent on Tuesday, March 31st at 4:00 p.m.
