Bulldogs Chase Down Garnet
SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- The DeSales baseball team enjoyed three out of the park home runs in a 6-1 win over Swarthmore on Wednesday afternoon at the Clothier Fields.
DeSales (6-6) started the game with a two -un homer from first baseman Zachary Hess in the first. They had an additional two runs before ending the inning 4-0.
Swarthmore (7-6) got on the board in the bottom of the second off two back-to-back doubles from freshman classmates Michael Cameron (Calabasas, Calif. / Viewpoint School) and Spencer Ross (Chappaqua, N.Y. / Horace Greeley) making the score 4-1. Cameron is currently on a five-game hitting streak.
The Bulldogs score an additional run in the third off a sacrifice fly to center field, good for an RBI for outfielder Andrew Feher.
Relief pitcher Adam Hardy '12 (Pompano Beach, Fla. / Pine Crest) recorded three straight strikeouts to end the seventh.
After a scoreless four innings Bulldog third baseman Derek Moyer hit a homer over the left field fence to score the final run of the game in the ninth.
Bulldog Mark Reilly pitched 5.2 innings, only allowed five hits while striking out seven batters to pick-up the win. Swarthmore sophomore Neil Mejia (Oak Park, Ill. / Oak Park River Forest) pitched the first six innings for the loss.
The Garnet will travel on Saturday, March 21st to play PSU-Berks on the first official day of spring. The non-conference game is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
