#7 Eagles Fly Past Garnet
ATLANTA, Ga. -- The number seventh ranked Emory women's tennis team topped Swarthmore 8-1 on Saturday morning at the Woodruff PE Center.
Emory improved to a 6-3 overall record while Swarthmore evened out at 1-1 for the season.
Emory got off to a quick start by capturing all three doubles points. The No. 1 doubles pair Sabra Rogers and Tshema Nash came away with a 9-7 decision over junior Rachel Wallwork (Washington, D.C. / Georgetown Day) and senior Jennie Park (Rockford, Ill. / Guilford). Zahra Dawson and Lorne McManigle posted a victory at the No. 2 slot over sophomore Luann Cignavitch (Charleston, S.C. / Porter-Gaud School) and senior Marissa Lee (Cary, N.C. / Cary Academy) while the Emory duo of Sara Vrabec and Kirsten Hillock brought home a win at No. 3 over sophomore Alexis Hickman (Vienna, Va. / George C. Marshall) and freshman Lamie Nguyen (Columbia, Md. / River Hill).
The lone singles win for Swarthmore was highlighted by a 6-2, 6-2 win for Wallwork who defeated Loren McManigle, ranked second in the Atlantic South region in the November 8 ITA/Campbell's poll.
The Garnet will return to the courts on Monday, March 9th facing #20 University of the South. The match is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
