Sweet Swimming Success on Second Day
LANCASTER, Pa. -- The Swarthmore swim teams earned six medals on the second day of the 2009 Centennial Conference Swimming Championships at the Kunkel Acquatics Center.
Swarthmore’s first medal of the night was won by the men’s 200-yard medley relay team who picked-up a silver medal with a time of 1:36.30. The team was led by Doug Gilchrist-Scott (Canton, Ohio / Hoover) who hit a slit time of 24.66 in the back stroke and was followed up by sophomore Sterling Satterfield (Durham, N.C. / Charles E. Jordan) who swam a 26.88 leg time. Freshman Sam Bullard-Sisken (Silver Spring, Md. / Montgomery Blair) tapped the boards with a time of 23.72 before classmate Tim Brevart (Swarthmore, Pa. / Strath Haven) finished-up the race with a freestyle leg time of 21.04.
Swarthmore junior Anne Miller (Buffalo, N.Y. / Buffalo Seminary) picked-up the women’s first medal of the meet in the women’s 100-yard butterfly. Miller placed second in the event with a finish time of 57.95.
The women’s 200-yard freestyle event saw great action from Swarthmore sophomore Chelsea Brett (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Trinity) and Dickinson junior Elizabeth Schroll. Brett eventually finished behind Schroll but put up a good fight with a silver medal time of 1:56.34 just behind Schroll’s 1:56.28 finish.
Swarthmore enjoyed a 2-3 finish in the men’s 100-yard breaststroke with freshman Lance Liu (Paoli, Pa. / Conestoga) setting the pace with a 58.30 race-time. This finish marks the career first individual medal for Lui. Satterfield picked-up his second individual medal of the meet touching the pads at 59.04.
Gilchrist-Scott earned his second medal on the evening in the men’s 100-yard backstroke adding 16 points to push Swarthmore’s team total over 400 plus points. The senior backstroker finished the race with a time of 53.96.
