Garnet Climb Skyward in 2008

The 2008 men's cross country team saw several personal-best times and another strong showing at the NCAA Regional Meet at the end of the season.

The Garnet harriers were led by senior Dan Hodson (Trumbull, Conn. / Fairfield Prep) and sophomore Patrick Hartnett (Syracuse, N.Y. / Westhill); these two traded first- and second- place finishes through the season. Seniors Connor Darby (Nashville, Tenn. / MLK Academic Magnet) and Erik Saka (Quincy, Ill. / Quincy), and junior Jonnie Tompkins (Swarthmore, Pa. / Strath Haven) were a great supporting cast that pushed their fellow teams on the trails.

Before heading into the Conference Championships the team scored a fifth-place finish at the DeSales Invitational (their best on the season). Three runners finished in the top ten to push a Swarthmore point total to 180. The Garnet also improved on their 2007 finish (37th place) at the Mideast Regional, coming in 19th overall in 2008.

Although the Garnet will graduate three of their top five runners, they will look to the underclassmen for an easy transition. Harnett, Tompkins and David Riccardi (Syracuse, N.Y. / Westhill) will again provideĀ  Coach Carroll with solid depth with among the long-distance runners.
