Track Team Givans Their All

BOSTON, Mass. -- The Swarthmore indoor track and field teams competed at the annual Valentine Invitational at Boston College this weekend.
Freshman Kenyatta Givans (Conshohocken, Pa. / Plymouth-Whitemarsh) was one-one hundredth of a second from tying a school record in the women’s 55-meter hurdles that was set in 1997 by Catherine Laine.  Givans' 8.72 race-time on Friday was good for a personal-best.

Senior Cait Mullarkey (Wilmington, Del. / Ursuline Academy) placed eighth in the women’s 5K-run with a time of 17:49.98. Posting personal-bests in the race were freshman Melissa Frick (Swarthmore, Pa. / Strath Haven) and senior Bess Ritter (Quaker Hill, Conn. / Waterford) with times of 18:10.99 and 18:20.09, respectively.

In the women’s 3,000-meter senior Kathy Feeney (Staatsburg, N.Y. / FDR) marked a personal-best with a time of 10:52.82.

On the men's side senior Erik Saka (Quincy, Ill. / Quincy)  posted a personal-best in the 3,000-meter run, with his 8:55.17 race-time he enter Swarthmore's top-ten list at number eight. Saka also marked the sixth fastest time of the season in the Centennial Conference. Senior Dan Hodson (Trumbull, Conn. / Fairfield Prep) also posted a collegiate-best in the 3K with a time of 8:58.25.

Senior Connor Darby (Nashville, Tenn. / MLK) marked a season-best in the men's 800-meter run crossing the line at 1:59.68.

The Garnet will travel to Haverford for the third and final time this season to compete in the annual Keogh Invite. The meet is set to begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20th.
