SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- In a game with playoff implications, visiting Gettysburg defeated Swarthmore, 78-65, in Centennial Conference women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon in Tarble Pavilion.

Garnet sophomore Kathryn Stockbower (Ft. Washington, Pa. / Upper Dublin) registered her 40th career double-double with team-highs in points (18) and rebounds (10). Stockbower had her 45th game in a row scoring in the double digits; she is now just one game away from tying the Conference record set by Julie Anderson from Johns Hopkins in 1997.  Sophomore guard Ceylan Bodur (Istanbul, Turkey / Roberts College) gave a 10 point effort for the Garnet. Freshman guard Brittany Schmelz (Monmouth Beach, N.J. / Rumson-Fair Haven Regional) tied a career-high with six points for the second game in a row.

Gettysburg sophomore forward Caitlin Moser, who averages 15.6 points per game, registered a game-high 25 points. Moser went 7-for-10 from the line while classmate Mary Spicer added 16 points to the Bullets total and dished out four assists.

Both teams went back-and-forth for the first three minutes, sharing the first 14 points of the game. Gettysburg took a four-point lead of 11-7 with 16:34 showing on the clock in the first half.

The Gettysburg defense rattled the Garnet with their full court-press at first but Swarthmore adjusted to tie the game at 11 a piece at 14:16.

Gettysburg went on a 7-2 run to put them up by six with 10:08 minutes left in the half.  The run was stopped by a jumper from Schmelz, cutting the score to 20-16 in favor of the Bullets with 8:30 on the clock.

With 2:25 left in the half, Bullets junior forward Courtney Fields pushed her team’s advantage to nine points (33-24) with a  three-pointer, it was their largest lead of the half.

The half closed with the Bullets up 36-28. The Garnet got off to a slow start from behind the free thrown line only hitting four of their first nine but they ended the half making the remaining six to total a 10-15 effort at the stripe.

To start the half Gettysburg went on a 7-2 run, pushing their lead to 11 points with 16:11 remaining.

At 15:49 Stockbower gathered an offensive rebound and dazzled the home crowd with a spin move lay up and converted the free-throw to complete a three-point play. The Bullets, however, remained ahead by nine points with a score of 43-34.

Swarthmore came within six points at 11:27 following a 6-0 run powered by freshman guard Genny Pezzola (Claremont, Calif. / Vivian Webb), who hit two back-to-back jumpers.

Gettysburg countered with an 8-0 run concluded with senior guard Margaret White draining a three-pointer to extend their lead to 13 points (59-46) with 8:43 remaining in the game. The Bullets defense continued to press hard on defense and prevented the Garnet from making a final rally.

The Garnet will return to Tarble Pavilion on Wednesday, February 18 to host Washington College. Before the game begins, the team will hold their annual Senior Night celebration. The Centennial Conference match-up is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m with the men's game to follow.
