Garnet Have No Fear of Green Terror

SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- All five Swarthmore starters scored in double-digits in the 82-65 win over McDaniel during Centennial Conference women's basketball action Tuesday night in Tarble Pavilion.

A five-star match-up highlighted by the Centennial office early Tuesday afternoon, Swarthmore completed the season sweep, pushing their Conference record to 4-2 (good for third in the Centennial), and overall to 7-6.  McDaniel fell to 5-6 overall and 3-3 in the CC.

Garnet guard Ceylan Bodur ’11 (Istanbul, Turkey / Roberts College), forward Pamela Costello ’10 (Havertown, Pa. / Haverford), guard Melissa Grigsby ’09 (West Chester, Pa. / West Chester East) and forward Kathryn Stocbower ’11 (Ft. Washington, Pa. / Upper Dublin) all scored 15 points for the Garnet. Stockbower collected a game-high 13 rebounds to register her seventh double-double in a row (Centennial-best 12th on the season). Sophomore post Summer Miller-Walfish (San Jose, N.M./ West Las Vegas) was also in double figures, picking up 12 points for the Garnet.

McDaniel junior Ali Moreland led the Green Terror with 15 points and dished out a team-high four assists. Moreland shot confidently from the line, going 7-for-8, helping her team post a foul-shooting percentage of 73.5. Coming off the bench, sophomore Whitney Snoops had 12 of the 32 points from the McDaniel bench.

The game that had a total of 45 personal fouls, started with two good free throws from McDaniel but Swarthmore quickly countered with a five-point run and never looked back on the way to their sixth win in eight games.

The Garnet face a tough schedule in the next week, hitting the road for three consecutive Centennial contests starting on Thursday, January 15 at Gettysburg.  Trips to Baltimore (vs. Johns Hopkins on January 17) and Chestertown, Md. (vs. Washington on January 20) will follow before the Garnet return to Tarble Pavilion on January 24.
