Four Swarthmore Men Named All-Centennial
LANCASTER, Pa. -- The Swarthmore men's soccer team had four student-athletes named to the All-Centennial team, as announced November 6. Seniors Jeff Kushner and Evan Nesterak were named to the first team, while junior Dylan Langley was selected to the second team and sophomore Morgan Langley was honorable mention.
Kushner (Norristown, Pa. / Methacton), a defender, was unanimously voted to the first team by the conference head coaches. This is the second time he has been honored by the Conference; Kushner was a second-team selection in 2007. The senior captain anchored the vaunted Garnet backline that led the Centennial in goals against average (0.45) and shutouts (six), allowing just four goals in Conference play. Kushner was named to the Conference Weekly Honor Roll on November 3 and made his mark offensively, contributing three assists on the season (tied for most in the Conference play).
Nesterak (Parker, Colo. / Ponderosa), a forward, sparked the Garnet offensive attack with five goals, tied for most in Centennial play. The senior was named Conference Offensive Player of the Week on November 3 after posting game-winning goals against Muhlenberg and Haverford in a pair of 1-0 Swarthmore wins. Nesterak scored a Conference-best four game-winning goals during Centennial action in 2008, finishing his Swarthmore career tied for 10th in points (44) and goals (21) in program history. In addition, the honors psychology major was placed on the Conference Academic Honor Roll.
Kushner and Nesterak are the third, and fourth, Garnet men's soccer players to receive first-team honors, with Nesterak being the first forward (midfielder Patrick Christmas ’08 and defender Alex Elkins ’06 were the other two).
Dylan Langley (Honolulu, Hawaii / Iolani School), a midfielder, fueled a potent Garnet offense (Centennial-leading 21 goals), tying for fourth in the Conference for points (nine). His seven goals were tied for fourth and his five assists were tied for third place in the Centennial. The junior captain was was named to the Weekly Conference Honor Roll on four occasions (Sept. 8, Sept. 15, Oct. 20, Oct. 27).
Morgan Langley (Honolulu, Hawaii / Iolani School), a forward, was a significant part of the Swarthmore attack, joining Kushner in the Conference assist lead. Morgan already has 10 career assists, ranking 8th all-time at Swarthmore.
The Langley brothers become the first male siblings in the Centennial Conference history named All-Conference in the same sport in the same year. They are also the first siblings at Swarthmore to accomplish the feat.
Swarthmore concluded the regular season with a 14-2-1 record overall, including an 8-1 mark in the Centennial to earn the top seed and right to host the Conference Championships.
