Mullarkey Named Academic All-District Again
SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- Swarthmore senior Cait Mullarkey was selected to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District II women's soccer team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Mullarkey is a first-team selection and will move onto the national ballot.
The District II College Division consists of all NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA colleges and universities in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. To be nominated for the team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average and a starter or significant reserve on her team.
Mullarkey (Wlimington, Del. / Ursuline Academy), a defender, has received All-Centennial First-Team honors each of the previous three years and was named All-Region twice by the National Soccer Coaches of America Association. Mullarkey, a two-time captain, leads a Swarthmore defensive unit that is second in the Conference in shutouts (nine).
This is Mullarkey’s second Academic All-District selection; she was named to the third team in 2007.
Mullarkey will graduate from the College’s Honors Programs as a biology major and chemistry minor, spent the summer performing research for her senior thesis at the Georgetown Medical School, On campus, she has written for the Phoenix, the student-run newspaper, and has served on the Student Activities Advisory Board and the Student Athlete Advisory Board.
The Garnet (9-3-3 overall, 5-1-3 CC) recently secured a third consecutive appearance in the Centennial playoffs, set to take place in Baltimore on the weekend of November 8-9.
