Fall Wraps up at Lehigh Country Club
ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- The Swarthmore golf team wrapped up its fall schedule Monday afternoon, claiming eighth place at the two-day Muhlenberg Fall Invitational.
After playing at Center Valley Golf Clib, the competition shifted cross-town to Lehigh Country Club, a par-70, 6557-yard layout with its trademark small, fast greens.
The Garnet entered four competitors for the second straight day (illness and class conflicts limited numbers), tallying a team score of 682 to finish behind Division-I Lafayette (647) and Moravian (651). Trinity (CT) took top honors with a score of 611, followed by host Muhlenberg (627) and Allegheny (630).
Freshman Alex Nichamin (Brookville, Pa. / Brookville) was low-man for Swarthmore, navigating the tight course for a team-best 80. Nichamin finished in a tie for 30th with a two-day score of 165 (85-80). Senior Michael Bernasek (Fairfield, Conn. / Hopkins School) started out strong on his first nine holes, recording three birdies to finish one stroke behind Nichamin with a 166 (80-86).
Swarthmore stuffs the clubs in the closet for the winter, dusting the irons off in March for the annual spring trip to North Carolina.
