Mules Down Garnet

SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- Swarthmore sophomore Sophia Ferguson scored two goals for Swarthmore but it was not enough in the 5-3 Centennial Conference loss against Muhlenberg on Wednesday night at Clothier Field.

The Mules (5-8, 2-4) were the first to get on the board and closed the first half up two goals.

The second half started with a Muhlenberg goal in the fourty-second minute of the game. Swarthmore (5-10, 1-6) forward Ferguson (Brookline, Mass. / The Winsor School) sandwiched two goals between Muhlenberg’s fifth goal. Assists on Ferguson’s goals were credited to seniors Natalie Stone (Philadelphia, Pa. / Friends Select) and Ashley Gunter (Crisfield, Md. / Worcester Prep). Swarthmore’s final goal was scored off a penalty stroke in the sixty-sixth minute of the game by Gunter.

Garnet goalies shared playing time, each manning the net for a half. Sophomore Katie Ashmore (Princeton, N.J. / Princeton) started in net and collected three saves while Gina Grubb (Pittsburg, Pa. / Oakland Catholic) had nine saves.

The Garnet will return to Clothier Field when they host Gettysburg on Saturday, October 25th. The Centennial Conference match-up is set for 12:00 p.m.
