Terror Takes Garnet to Overtime for the CC Win
SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- The McDaniel field hockey team won 4-3 in overtime, over host Swarthmore, Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference action.
McDaniel (6-5, 3-1 CC) was the first to get on the board, scoring the two goals of the game, closing the half closed with a 2-0 lead over the Garnet (4-8, 1-4 CC).
The Garnet came back on the field following the half-time intermission, re-grouped and ready for a come back.
Swarthmore scored three consecutive goals to take the lead, 3-2. Sophomore midfielder Devon Novotnak (Fogelsville, Pa. / Northwestern Lehigh) scored her first goal of the season, tipping in a pass from junior midfielder Joslyn Young (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Community) at 37:08. Garnet forward Abbe Muller (West Hartford, Conn. / Conard) netted her fifth goal of the season almost four minutes later while Young tipped in a pass from senior Natalie Stone (Philadelphia, Pa. / Friends Select) to take the lead.
McDaniel tied up the game, at three goals a piece, off a penalty stroke in the 56th minute to send the game into overtime. Less than four minutes into the overtime period, Green Terror forward Michelle Fluty scored the game winning goal to send the visitors to the victory.
Swarthmore junior goalie Gina Grubb (Pittsburg, Pa. / Oakland Catholic) collected 18 saves on the afternoon for the Garnet.
Swarthmore will wrap-up their non-conference schedule on Wednesday, October 8th when they travel to Richard Stockton. The game is schedule to begin at 4:00 p.m.
