Heaney Breaks Record, Terror Top Garnet

SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- Garnet senior libero Erin Heaney became the all-time leader in digs at Swarthmore as the Garnet dropped a 3-1 decision to visiting McDaniel in Centennial Conference volleyball action Saturday morning.

The Green Terror improves to 7-10 overall and 1-1 in the conference with game scores of 25-21, 15-25, 27-25 and 25-15.  Swarthmore dips to 5-13 overall and 1-2 in the Centennial.

Heaney (Buffalo, N.Y. / City Honors), a senior captain, totaled four digs in the first set, breaking the previous mark of 1,477 held by Erica George ’07.  Heaney tallied nine digs on the afternoon to stand at 1,483 digs (good for top-15 all-time in the Centennial).

Swarthmore senior Jen Wang (Palo Alto, Calif. / Henry Gunn) led the offense on Saturday with a match-high 20 kills and freshman outside hitter Genny Pezzola (Oakland, Calif. / Henry Gunn) contributed her 13th double-double with 12 kills and 21 digs with five service aces.

Junior setter Kearney Bangs (Kingston, Wash. / North Kitsap) posted 39 assists with eight digs while freshman Hillary Santana (South Lake Tahoe, Calif. / South Tahoe) registered a career-best 21 digs.

McDaniel was led by senior middle Taylor Herrgott who had 17 kills while Kristen Nuckles contributed 22 assists and 15 digs.

The Garnet welcome Muhlenberg to Tarble Pavilion this Tuesday, October 7.  First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
