Cavaliers Edge Garnet

MADISON, N.J. -- Swarthmore junior Hoa Pham's two goals in the field hockey game against Cabrini (1-1) was not enough to get the Garnet (1-1) in a groove during the 3-2 loss on Sunday morning at the Drew Fall Festival.

The game started with an unassisted goal from Cabrini freshman Laren Alessi (Swedesboro, N.J. / Kingsway Regional) in the seventh minute of the game.

Garnet forward Pham (East Lansdown, Pa. / Penn Wood) evened the score at 17:52 when she took a feed from midfielder Ashley Gunter '09 (Crisfield, Md. / Worcester Prep). At 23:42 Pham found her second goal of the day off a loose ball which she knocked past the Cavalier goalie to take the lead 2-1 in favor of the Garnet.

Unfortunately the Cavaliers took control of the offensive play and scored two more goals from sophomore Desiree Umosella (Hammonton, N.J. / Saint Joseph's) making the final score 3-2.

The Garnet had 21-13 shot advantage but could not connect to find the net. Katie Ashmore '11 (Princeton, N.J. / Princeton) collected five stops for Swarthmore. Cavalier sophomore net minder Caitlin Donahue (Langhorne, Pa. / Neshaminy) had 11 saves for Cabrini.

The Garnet will open their Centennial Conference schedule when they travel to Collegeville, Pa. to take on the defending Conference Champions Ursinus at 7:00 p.m.
