Wallwork CC Player of the Year, Joins Park on First Team
LANCASTER, Pa. -- Swarthmore sophomore Rachel Wallwork and junior Jennie Park were named First-Team All-Centennial in women's tennis for both singles and doubles, as announced by the Conference office Tuesday. Wallwork was also selected Player of the Year, the third Swarthmore tennis player to receive the honor.
Wallwork (Washington, D.C. / Georgetown Day) earns her first All-Centennial honors, going 17-3 in singles’ play during the 2007-08 season, including a perfect 10-0 against Centennial opponents’ at No. 1. She is ranked eighth in the region, as seen in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll released on April 29.
Wallwork continues the long tradition of Garnet tennis, receiving the sixth Player of the Year honor for a Swarthmore woman, joining Kim Crusey (1995) and Reddy (2001, ’02, ’03, ’04).
Park (Rockford, Ill. / Guilford) was named First-Team in singles’ for the third time, the second Swarthmore player (ninth in Centennial history) to earn the honor in each of her first three seasons (Anjani Reddy ’04 was First-Team all four years; 2001, ’02, ’03, ’04). She posted a 9-6 record this season with a 7-2 mark in Centennial action, mostly at the No. 2 spot.
Wallwork and Park paired up at No. 1 doubles this season, finishing the regular season 9-3 overall and a perfect 6-0 in the Centennial. The duo are ranked 14th in the Atlantic South region, in the ITA rankings.
Swarthmore, ranked eighth in the Atlantic South region, completed the season with an overall record of 12-6, 9-1 in the Centennial, making its third appearance in the Conference team championship match in the three years its been held.
