Two Runners Post 3rd Place Finishes

CHESTER, Pa. -- The Swarthmore track and field team competed at the Widener Open on Saturday at the Leslie C. Quick J. Stadium.

Junior Cait Mullarkey (Wilmington, Del. / Ursuline Academy) finished third overall in the women’s 800-meter run, posting a 2:17.37 Centennial Conference qualifying time.

Sophomore Nykia Corbett (Myrtle Point, Ore. / Myrtle Point) crossed the line at 18:27.25 for a third-place finish in the women’s 5,000 meter run.

In the women’s 1,500 meter run, sophomore Lauren Deluca (Audubon, Pa. / Kennedy-Kenrick) posted a season best finish time of 5:04.73.

Rebecca Woo ’11 (Davis, Calif. / Davis Senior) placed seventh overall in the women’s 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 12:58.49.

In the field events Heather Hightower ’09 (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Oakwood Friends) threw a season best 21.35 meters in the women’s discus.

In the men’s 400 meter run Dan Kurz ’11 (Melrose, Mass. / Melrose) posted a season-best 54.05 finish time. While sophomore Andrew Van Buren (Hudson, Ohio / Western Reserve Academy) also had a season-best in the men’s 800 meter run with a time of 2:07.07

In the men’s 1,500 meter run Alex Breslow crossed the line at 4:44.80 for a season best.

Senior Ross Weller (McConnellsburg, Pa. / Mercersburg) qualified for Conference Championships in the men’s 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:31.55 while classmate Jon Shoop (Reno, Nev. / Incline) posted a season-best finish of 15:44.28.

The Garnet will travel to The College of New Jersey next weekend for the Lion’s Invite on Saturday, April 26th.
