Lukoski Clinches Win Over Bates

SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- Swarthmore senior Erica Lukoski wins in singles to clinch a 7-2 match over Bates on a cold Monday afternoon at the Faulkner Courts.

Swarthmore wrapped up doubles play with two wins at 2 and 3 doubles spots. Jamie Midyette '08 (Chesapeake, Va. / Western Branch) and Luann Cignavitch '11 (Charleston, S.C. / Porter-Gaud School) picked up an 8-4 win while sophomore Kearney Bangs (Kingston, Wash. / North Kitsap) and junior Marissa Lee (Cary, N.C. / Cary Academy) finished with a 9-7 win.

The Garnet won five or six singles to close the win against the Bobcats. Rachel Wallwork ’08 (Washington, D.C. / Georgetown Day) picked up her tenth win at No. 1 singles with scores of 6-1 and 6-3 to send the Garnet ahead 4-1. Jennie Park ’09 (Rockford, Ill. Guilford) registered her fifth season win with score of 6-1 and 6-2 at No. 2. Earning her second win of the afternoon Midyette finished with scores of 6-2 and 6-3. Lukoski (Shoreham, N.Y. / Shoreham-Wading River) defeated Bates No. 4 singles to with 6-2 and 6-4 wins for the overall match decision. Freshman Alexis Hickman (Vienna, Va. / George C Marshall) won the in with a tie breaker score of 3-6 and 6-3 (10-4).

The Garnet will hold their Senior Day on Wednesday, April 16 against long-time rival Haverford. The match is schedule for a 4:00 p.m. start time.
