Rachel Continues to WallWork No. One Singles

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Swarthmore sophomore Rachel Wallwork remains undefeated in #1 singles play as #8 Carnegie Mellon beats the Garnet 8-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Battleground Athletic Complex on the campus of Mary Washington.

Wallwork (Washington, D.C. / Georgetown Day) upset regionally ranked Amy Staloch (#6) during the number one doubles match with scores of 6-3, 7-6 (11-9). Wallwork pushes her win streak to seven individual wins this season in the top position.

Garnet Jennie Park ’09 (Rockford, Ill. / Guilford) fell to regionally ranked #11 Jennier Chui with a tie breaker set, scores were 7-6 (7-4) and 6-3. Tartan Kelly Hart downed Jamie Midyette ’08 (Chesapeake, Va. / Western Branch) with scores of 6-2 and 6-1 while teammate Alisa Liebowitz had two set scores of 6-1 over senior Erica Lukoski (Shoreham, N.Y. / Shoreham-Wading River). Garnet freshman Luann Cignavitch (Charleston, S.C. / Porter-Gaud School) fell with scores of 6-3 and 6-2 to Ashley Herrick. Swarthmore first year Alexis Hickman (Vienna, Va. / George C Marshall) finished the singles round losing to Danielle Rosenfield 6-2 and 6-0.

In doubles action the Tartans swept the Garnet as regionally ranked #4 Chui/ Staloch and #12 Herrick/Hart defeated Park/ Wallwork and Cignavitch/ Lukoski with scores of 8-2 and 8-3 respectively. Tartan No. 3rd doubles Liebowitz/ Rosenfeld took the 8-5 win over Garnet Hickman/ Midyette.

The Garnet will face their second nationally ranked team in two days when they take on #7 Mary Washington in Fredericksburg on Sunday, April 6 at 10:00 a.m.
