Eagles Fight Off Garnet
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Swarthmore men's tennis continues to put forth the strong effort but another top-ranked opponent claimed victory. Saturday's foe, #11 Mary Washington, followed the play of two All-Americans to defeat the Garnet 9-0 in non-conference tennis action at the Battleground.
Garnet senior Jonathan Lo (Honolulu, Hawaii / Iolaui School) played his best match of the season, falling valiantly to 2007 All-American John James at No.1 singles by a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
Swarthmore junior Kevin Shaughnessy (South Kingston, R.I. / South Kingston) found himself across the net from UMW's Randy Loden, a fifth-place finisher at the 2007 ITA Fall Regionals. Loden prevailed 6-0, 6-3.
Swarthmore (3-6 overall) travels to Chestertown, Md. on Sunday to face Centennial-opponent Washington (Md.) in a 3:00 p.m. match. The Garnet return home to the College Ave. Courts on Saturday when Gettysburg visits for a 1:00 p.m. match.
