Garnet Shield Bullets

GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- The Swarthmore (2-1, 2-0 CC) won 7-2 against Gettysburg (4-2, 0-1 CC) in Centennial Conference women's tennis action on Saturday afternoon.

Swarthmore doubles teams swept the Gettysburg Bullets starting with Rachel Wallwork ’10 (Washington, D.C. / Georgetown Day) and senior Erica Lukoski (Shoreham, N.Y. / Shoreham-Wading River) who won 8-3 against senior Ally Moyer (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) and sophomore Kelly Eurich (Elizabethtown, Pa./ Elizabethtown). Garnet number 2 team Marissa Lee ’09 (Cary, N.C. / Cary Academy) and Jamie Midyette ’08 (Chesapeake, Va. / Western Branch ) defeated sophomore Meghan Kelly (Easton, Conn./Kent School) and junior Mary McConnell (Rye, N.Y./Rye) 8-3 as well. Finishing up doubles actions was Garnet team Luann Cignavitch ’11 (Charleston, S.C. / Porter-Gaud School) and Alexis Hickman ’11 (Vienna, Va. / George C Marshall) who downed senior Shelly Gottesfeld (Jarrettsville, Md./North Harford) and freshman Laura Patterson (Yardley, Pa./Stuart County Day School [N.J]) 8-1.

Wallwork picked up a 6-3, 6-0 winagainst Moyer on the main court while Midyette won 6-1 and 6-4 playing Eurich. Gottesfeld picked up the Bullets’ first win of the afternoon defeating Lukoski 6-4 and 7-5. Cignavitch took Kelly to three games but fell with scores of 7-6 (7-3), 2-6 and 10-4. Hickman topped Patterson with games of 6-1, 6-2 before Garnet Sofia Gall ’09 (Potomac, Md. / Winston Churchill) beat McConnell 6-2 and 6-1.

Swarthmore returns home to continue their Conference schedule hosting the Bryn Mawr Owls on Wednesday, March 19 at 3:30 pm.
