Garnet Earn Academic Honors

SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) named nine members of the Swarthmore team to the ZAG/ NFHCA Division III All-Academic Squad for the 2007 season. The selecctions include Abbie Fischer '08, Alex Gilbert-Bono '10, Gina Grubb '10, Sarah Reynolds '09, Jordan Schmidt '09, Natalie Stone '09, Rachel Turner '08 and Joslyn Young '10 as announced March 12, 2008.

Student-athletes must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2007-2008 academic year in order to be selected onto the team.

Swarthmore was one of 83 teams also selected for the National Academic Team Award after accumulating a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Fischer, a senior forward, started all 17 games for the Garnet and ranked second in points (17). She scored seven goals this season to finish her career total at 22 and was named to the All-Centennial team.

Stone, was selected to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Star Teams, which was voted upon by the Philadelphia-Area Sports Information Directors Association (Philly-SIDA). To be eligible for the All-Star team, an athlete must be of sophomore athletic standing, have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or key reserve.

Swarthmore completed the 2007 season with an overall record of 6-11, including a 3-7 mark in Centennial play.
